Annual Salary: This is a 9-month, tenure-track position at the assistant professor rank. The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and background. Additional summer teaching appointments are possible, but contingent on available funding and demand.  
Description: The Department of Curriculum and Instruction seeks applicants for the position of Assistant Professor in the area of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education. The Department seeks applicants who have experience in developing and implementing language and multicultural education programs and teaching language minority education curriculum at the College/University level as well as possible experiences at the secondary education level. Applicants need to possess theoretical and practical interests in and knowledge of teaching and learning of English and have the capacity to work with teachers and other professionals in multi-disciplinary settings. The anticipated starting date is August 15, 2012.  
Minimum Requirements: 1. An earned doctorate by May 2012 from a nationally recognized university in educational linguistics, applied linguistics, English as a Second Language or a closely related field;
2. Research interest in culturally responsive pedagogy;
3. Evidence of teaching in the area of teacher education for culturally and linguistically diverse students;
4. Evidence of scholarly productivity;
5. Evidence of teaching experience in a pre-K-12 school setting.
 
Preferred Qualifications: 1. Documented evidence of successful curriculum development;
2. Documented evidence of successful teaching at College/University level;
3. Documentation of ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment;
4. Experience in the development and implementation of online education courses offered by a College/University;
5. Experience working in linguistic and culturally diverse settings such as study and/or teaching abroad;
6. Elementary and/or secondary education teaching experience;
7. Scholarly presentations and/or publications in the areas of education, ESL/bilingual/multicultural education, or related disciplinary areas;
8. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
 
Job Duties: The individual selected to fill this position will be expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities: (1) teach graduate and undergraduate level courses on the Fayetteville campus and online courses in the state of Arkansas; (2) participate in student advisement and mentoring, including service on graduate student advisory and dissertation committees; (3) develop off campus programs at both childhood and secondary education levels at multiple sites; (4) conduct research projects both individually and in collaboration with other faculty; (5) publish the results of scholarship in refereed venues; (6) obtain external funding to support research and curriculum development endeavors; and (7) provide service to the department, college, university, community, and profession.
