The Effect of Word Frequency on Answering Grammar Questions

The Effect of Word Frequency on Answering Grammar Questions

Zahra Kordjazi

Abstract

The present study was conducted to investigate the relationship between word frequency and answering grammar questions. The subjects of the study were 28 female graduates and undergraduates. Two grammar tests each containing 20 questions with low and high frequency words were given to the subjects with an interval of seven days. The questions including rare and common words were distributed randomly in the tests. Paired sample t-test was used for data analysis. The results indicated that there is no relationship between word frequency and answering grammar questions. Being familiar with a rare word or not does not affect learner's ability to deal with a grammar question. This study, in fact, has a complementary role in the research on word frequency.
